Born a slave (2017)
The piece was inspired by the life journey of "Harriet Tubman", a famous female “conductor” on the Underground Railroad during the turbulent 1850s. After Harriet Tubman free-of-slavery, she created routes and help slaves escape. In every night, Harriet and her passengers run through daily risks for getting caught. She needs to be more watchful of the situation. Even the smallest sound of cracking could be an alert. the form of the reflected mirrors is nervous system. The great fears and the sensitiveness of the receptors are like the quick flash that waken of all senses. "When you're shocked or scared, your blood runs cold" is the metaphor. This work was created as a memento of her courage, sacrifice, and as a reminder to all of us of how cruel the history was by putting us in a view of an abolitionist.
